Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Should homeless and domestic violence shelters be required to allow biological men who identify as women to share restrooms, washing quarters, and sleeping quarters with female residents? Y* It's easy enough to provide restrooms with appropriate locks and enclosures. Everyone uses the same port-a-johns at an outdoor event and the same bathrooms on airplanes with no problems. Identifying transgender women as outcasts and "others" isn't morally just.
2. Should marijuana be legalized for recreational use? Y* Too many have been incarcerated for simply using marijuana recreationally. As a result, lives have been destroyed and to no avail.
3. Should Ohio allow citizens to conceal-carry firearms without a state-issued permit? N* Easy access to guns is currently the nation's top public health problem. Studies show that states with more guns experience more gun deaths.
4. Should medical professionals be prohibited from prescribing cross-sex hormones and puberty-blocking drugs to minors for the purpose of "gender transitioning?" N* The issue is probably best handled by doctors communicating directly with families without interference from the state.
5. Should Ohio enact a "Backpack Bill," ensuring all parents are eligible for taxpayer-funded scholarships or subsidies for their children to attend the school of their choice, including non-public schools? N* The "Backpack Bill" simply drains public schools of much needed funds and puts that money into the pockets of wealthy charter school CEO's. Ohio's experience with corrupt charter schools should make us all especially wary of any "Backpack Bill".
6. Should the death penalty be abolished? Y* Studies have shown that the death penalty is not justly or equitably applied.
7. Should abortion be prohibited from the moment of conception? N* Women, communicating with their families and their doctors should make decisions as to what is in their best health interests.
8. Should cities and other municipalities be prohibited from allowing non-U.S. citizens from voting in local elections? N* They already are prohibited from allowing non-US citizens from voting in federal elections. Local governments are in the best position to decide how to run their own elections.
9. Should Ohio legalize euthanasia? U* This is a large and complicated question. It can't really be answered with a simple "yes" or "no".
10. Should judges be required to consider community safety when setting bail for individuals charged with a crime? N* Judges already consider a variety of factors when deciding bail including the nature of the crime. There is no need for such a redundant requirement. In addition, it could easily be used by prosecutors and judges to argue for high bails without going through due process.
