Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Should homeless and domestic violence shelters be required to allow biological men who identify as women to share restrooms, washing quarters, and sleeping quarters with female residents? N
2. Should marijuana be legalized for recreational use? N* I am open to exploring the medical use question.
3. Should Ohio allow citizens to conceal-carry firearms without a state-issued permit? U* I support gun education training. I have personally seen too many times well intentioned gun owners mishandling firearms because they didn't know better. We need to see what the results and impact is of the repeal before making a decision on where to go from here.
4. Should medical professionals be prohibited from prescribing cross-sex hormones and puberty-blocking drugs to minors for the purpose of "gender transitioning?" Y
5. Should Ohio enact a "Backpack Bill," ensuring all parents are eligible for taxpayer-funded scholarships or subsidies for their children to attend the school of their choice, including non-public schools? U* I am a supporter of school choice. A universal voucher system, like the backpack bill, for school funding is doable as an option as other states have done the same. My concern would be to make sure the full economic impact has been thoroughly studied first with a well thought out transition plan to be able to properly assess the pros and cons and build consensus around the change. At the same time, to the degree this is being done because public education has become too bias in favor of leftist ideology, I would push for legislation to directly address that problem so public education is balanced and does its job of fairly promoting critical thinking skills.
6. Should the death penalty be abolished? N
7. Should abortion be prohibited from the moment of conception? U* I believe human life should be protected and respected from conception. At the same time, I consider the question overly narrow because it does not account for circumstances such as when there is an unreasonably elevated risk to the mother. In addition, there are genetic abnormalities so severe that the fetus will never survive like Anencephaly a rare condition in which a fetus develops without a brain. Also, changes to the law on abortion need to be taken slowly to develop a broad level of support for the law, otherwise you risk going too far in a direction too fast and end up with the opposite results much like the alcohol prohibition movement in the 1920s.
8. Should cities and other municipalities be prohibited from allowing non-U.S. citizens from voting in local elections? Y
9. Should Ohio legalize euthanasia? N
10. Should judges be required to consider community safety when setting bail for individuals charged with a crime? Y
